Jos Verstappen Fires Back at Ralf Schumacher Over Max Verstappen Mercedes Spec…. read more 👇 full details in the comments

The future of Max Verstappen continues to dominate Formula 1 headlines, but his father, Jos Verstappen, has now stepped in to challenge fresh claims surrounding the Dutch driver’s situation at Red Bull.
For months, speculation has linked the four-time Formula 1 world champion with a sensational move away from Red Bull and toward Mercedes. The rumours have only intensified as Red Bull struggles through a difficult campaign, leaving many wondering whether Verstappen could activate a contractual exit clause and seek a new challenge elsewhere.
Despite being under contract with Red Bull until the end of the 2028 season, it has been confirmed by Verstappen’s manager, Raymond Vermeulen, that a performance-related exit clause exists within the agreement. The clause becomes relevant during the summer break at the end of July and could potentially allow Verstappen to leave before the contract expires.
Reports indicate that the clause is linked to Verstappen’s position in the championship standings. With Red Bull enduring one of its most challenging seasons in recent years, the Dutch star currently finds himself outside the top two positions in the drivers’ championship. He sits seventh in the standings and trails championship leader Kimi Antonelli by more than 100 points, placing him in a situation few would have predicted at the start of the season.
As a result, speculation surrounding Mercedes has accelerated. Team principal Toto Wolff has long been associated with an interest in signing Verstappen, and many observers believe the Silver Arrows remain the most realistic destination should he decide to leave Red Bull.
However, former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher recently introduced a new twist to the ongoing saga. Speaking on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast, Schumacher claimed that Verstappen had already rejected an approach from Mercedes.
According to Schumacher, the rejection was linked to financial considerations. He suggested that Mercedes presented an offer that did not meet Verstappen’s expectations and argued that the situation may have been intentional from Wolff’s perspective.
Schumacher theorized that Mercedes could be hesitant to place Verstappen alongside highly rated young driver Kimi Antonelli. The Italian rookie has rapidly established himself as one of Formula 1’s brightest talents and is viewed by many as the future cornerstone of the Mercedes project.
The former Williams, Jordan, and Toyota driver argued that Wolff may be reluctant to recreate the type of internal rivalry that once existed between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg during Mercedes’ dominant era.
Schumacher suggested that having two elite drivers fighting within the same team could generate tensions similar to those experienced during the Hamilton-Rosberg years, a period that produced multiple championship battles but also significant friction inside the garage.
His comments quickly attracted attention across the Formula 1 paddock, but they were not well received by Jos Verstappen.
The former Formula 1 driver responded publicly through social media, dismissing Schumacher’s claims outright. In a short but direct message posted on Instagram, Jos made it clear that he disagreed with the German’s assessment.
“Ralf, again you bring wrong information,” he wrote.
The response immediately reignited discussion around Verstappen’s future, with many fans interpreting Jos Verstappen’s comments as evidence that Schumacher’s claims lacked substance.
The exchange highlights just how much uncertainty continues to surround the reigning world champion. While rumours persist on an almost daily basis, very little concrete information has emerged regarding Verstappen’s actual intentions.
What is known is that Verstappen and his manager recently held discussions with senior Red Bull figures ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend. The meeting reportedly focused on gaining clarity regarding the team’s long-term competitiveness and future direction.
Sources suggest that Verstappen has not formally informed Red Bull of any intention to leave. At the same time, reports indicate he has not provided assurances that he will remain beyond the current season either.
That uncertainty has left the Formula 1 paddock waiting for answers. Mercedes remains closely linked with the Dutchman, while Red Bull continues working to convince its star driver that it can return to championship-winning form.
With the summer break approaching and the exit clause set to become active, speculation is unlikely to disappear anytime soon. Every comment from Verstappen, his management team, Red Bull executives, and rival teams is now being closely examined for clues about what could become one of the biggest driver market stories in Formula 1 history.
For now, however, one thing is clear: Jos Verstappen is not prepared to let unverified rumours go unchallenged, and he has made his position on Schumacher’s latest claims unmistakably clear.
