A promising start to qualifying at the iconic Nürburgring Nordschleife quickly turned into a tense and dramatic scene, as a major दुर्घ incident forced officials to halt the session and disrupted Max Verstappen’s plans on track.
The opening qualifying session for Race 1 (NLS4) at the ADAC 24h Qualifiers began under bright and favorable conditions, with an impressive grid of 127 cars taking to the circuit. Scheduled to run for 90 minutes from 08:30 local time, teams wasted no time heading out to set early lap times on one of motorsport’s most challenging layouts.
However, the session was dramatically stopped less than half an hour in after a serious crash involving Anders Buchardt. Driving the No.39 entry, Buchardt was caught up in an incident with an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo run by Walkenhorst Motorsport. The collision occurred at the demanding Adenauer Forst section, where the car struck the barriers heavily, causing significant damage.
The severity of the crash prompted race control to immediately display red flags, bringing all on-track action to a halt while marshals attended to the scene and carried out repairs to the safety barriers.
Despite the frightening nature of the accident, there was relief in the paddock when updates confirmed that Buchardt was conscious and communicating after the impact. Jörg Breuer relayed that the Norwegian driver appeared to have avoided serious injury.
Before the interruption, David Jahn had set the fastest time, putting his GAMOTA Racing BMW at the top of the leaderboard with a lap of 8:15.135. Meanwhile, Lucas Auer, who shares duties with Verstappen at Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing, had not yet completed a timed lap before the stoppage.
The interruption proved frustrating for Verstappen’s squad, as valuable early track time was lost in a session where every minute counts. The Dutch star had been aiming to gain crucial experience on the Nordschleife, a circuit known for its technical difficulty and unforgiving nature.
Following a delay to repair the damaged barriers and ensure safety conditions were restored, officials announced that qualifying would resume at 09:40 local time. To make up for the lost running, the session duration was extended until 10:50.
Although the action eventually resumed, the incident served as another reminder of the risks posed by the Nürburgring. Even with modern safety standards, the historic circuit continues to test drivers to their absolute limits.
As the session got back underway, attention turned once again to Verstappen and his rivals, with teams eager to recover lost time and push for strong qualifying performances after a chaotic and unsettling start to the day.
