Speculation is beginning to grow within Formula 1 that Lewis Hamilton could face increasing pressure over his future with Scuderia Ferrari, as discussions emerge about a potential long-term replacement.
The seven-time world champion endured a disappointing 2025 campaign by his own high standards. He finished a significant 86 points behind his teammate, Charles Leclerc, and, notably, failed to secure a single Grand Prix podium throughout the season—an unprecedented low point in his illustrious career. Although Hamilton has shown some improvement at the start of the 2026 season, including a podium finish at the Chinese Grand Prix, questions remain about his long-term role within the team.
Hamilton’s current contract with Ferrari is set to expire at the end of the 2026 season, though there is an option to extend the deal. Despite this, reports suggest that internal conversations may already be taking place regarding future driver line-ups, particularly with emerging talent catching the attention of Ferrari’s leadership.
One name increasingly linked with a potential move to Ferrari is Oliver Bearman, a young British driver currently racing for Haas F1 Team. Bearman, who is part of Ferrari’s driver academy, has impressed with his performances and is seen as a promising long-term prospect. His relatively low cost compared to a high-profile driver like Hamilton also adds to his appeal from a strategic standpoint.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu has acknowledged the possibility that Bearman could eventually be promoted to Ferrari. Speaking during the Japanese Grand Prix weekend, Komatsu indicated that such a move would reflect positively on Haas’ development efforts. He emphasized that if Bearman continues to perform at a high level and attracts Ferrari’s interest, it would validate the team’s role in nurturing his talent.
Komatsu also confirmed that there have been discussions between Haas and Ferrari regarding Bearman’s future, though he stopped short of providing specific details or timelines. Instead, he stressed that Haas remains focused on maximizing performance and supporting Bearman’s development, even if it ultimately leads to his departure.
Bearman’s rise in Formula 1 has been notable. After a somewhat inconsistent rookie season, he finished strongly, outperforming his more experienced teammate, Esteban Ocon, in the drivers’ standings. One of his standout performances came at the Brazilian Grand Prix, where he secured a fourth-place finish—matching Haas’ best-ever result.
The 20-year-old has carried that momentum into the 2026 season, delivering consistent and competitive results. He finished fifth at the Chinese Grand Prix and seventh in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, reinforcing his status as one of the sport’s most exciting young drivers.
As Formula 1 looks ahead to the 2027 season, Bearman is widely regarded as a strong candidate for a seat with one of the top teams. Meanwhile, Hamilton’s future remains uncertain, with his performance over the remainder of the 2026 season likely to play a crucial role in determining whether he stays with Ferrari or makes way for the next generation.
