Breaking: Red Bull confirms Max Verstappen Replacement as driver…read more

Fresh rumours surrounding Max Verstappen and his future at Red Bull Racing continue to gather momentum, with reports claiming the reigning champions are already considering potential replacements if the Dutchman decides to leave.

What once seemed like another round of Formula 1 speculation is now reportedly being treated far more seriously within Red Bull. Questions over Verstappen’s long-term commitment to the team have grown following his criticism of Formula 1’s upcoming regulations and the direction the sport is heading.

The four-time world champion has previously voiced concerns about the next generation of F1 cars, suggesting the new regulations could reduce the excitement and purity of racing. His comments fuelled speculation that he may eventually walk away from the sport entirely or seek a fresh challenge elsewhere once the new era begins.

While Red Bull showed encouraging signs with a stronger performance in Miami, doubts remain over whether they can consistently stay ahead of their rivals throughout the season. Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team and McLaren Formula 1 Team are both continuing to close the gap, with Mercedes expected to introduce significant upgrades at the Canadian Grand Prix.

McLaren have also emerged as one of the standout teams on the grid after several impressive weekends. The team’s pace in Miami, particularly during the sprint sessions where Lando Norris performed strongly, further highlighted their growing competitiveness.

As a result, both Mercedes and McLaren have increasingly been linked with a possible move for Verstappen should he decide to part ways with Red Bull. McLaren’s connection to the Dutch driver intensified after reports suggested recent contact between the team and Verstappen’s representatives.

According to the latest reports, Red Bull are no longer brushing aside the possibility of losing their star driver. Senior figures within the organisation are believed to be actively preparing for a future scenario in which Verstappen departs.

Speaking on the Up to Speed podcast, motorsport broadcaster Will Buxton discussed the situation alongside Naomi Schiff and Jolie Sharpe. During the discussion, Buxton revealed that Red Bull are reportedly assessing alternative options in the driver market.

One driver strongly linked with the team is current McLaren talent Oscar Piastri. Reports from Autosport suggest Red Bull are highly interested in the Australian as a possible successor to Verstappen.

Buxton indicated that Red Bull’s interest in Piastri shows the team are genuinely concerned about Verstappen’s future. He explained that Red Bull would not seriously explore replacement options unless they believed there was a realistic chance of losing their lead driver.

The uncertainty reportedly stems not only from interest being shown by rival teams, but also from ongoing doubts over Verstappen’s long-term motivation to remain in Formula 1 under the sport’s evolving regulations.

Further reports claim that Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies and Red Bull executive Oliver Mintzlaff are prepared to pursue a move for Piastri should Verstappen eventually leave the team.

For now, Verstappen has not made any public decision regarding his future. However, the fact Red Bull are reportedly making plans for life after their dominant champion underlines the growing uncertainty surrounding one of Formula 1’s biggest stars.

With competition intensifying and a new technical era approaching, Verstappen’s future is rapidly becoming one of the most closely watched storylines in the sport.
