Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen won’t be the only big-name driver taking on one of motorsport’s toughest endurance races next month. Former F1 podium finisher Timo Glock has confirmed he will also compete in the prestigious ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring, setting up an intriguing clash between drivers from different eras of the sport.
Preparations for the iconic race ramped up during last weekend’s qualifying event at the Nürburgring, where Verstappen showed impressive pace in a Mercedes-AMG GT3. The Dutch driver was locked in an intense on-track fight with Christopher Haase, who piloted an Audi for Scherer Sport PHX. Their duel provided a glimpse of the fierce competition expected in the main event.
However, Verstappen’s session didn’t go entirely to plan. Damage to the car’s splitter forced him into the pits for repairs, costing valuable time. As a result, he and teammate Lucas Auer finished down the order in 39th position, later promoted to 38th after a rival retirement. Despite the setback, the performance still underlined Verstappen’s adaptability beyond Formula 1.
Meanwhile, Glock has quietly been building momentum for his Nürburgring return. Competing in the top-tier SP9 GT3 category, he will drive a McLaren 720S GT3 entered by Dörr Motorsport. The entry marks his first attempt at the 24-hour classic in a GT3 machine, adding another chapter to his diverse racing career.
Glock’s F1 journey began in 2004 with Jordan, where he impressed immediately by scoring points in his debut season. After claiming the GP2 title in 2007, he secured a full-time return to Formula 1, most notably racing for Toyota, where he achieved three podium finishes. Later stints with Virgin and Marussia proved less fruitful, but his reputation as a skilled and resilient driver remained intact.
Since leaving F1, Glock has carved out a successful path in touring cars and endurance racing, particularly in DTM. His Nürburgring campaign will see him share driving duties with Ben Dörr, Marvin Kirchhofer, and Timo Scheider—a lineup blending youth, factory expertise, and experience.
The team’s car will carry special significance beyond performance. Its livery pays tribute to Michael Schumacher, echoing the iconic design of the 1995 Benetton that delivered his second world championship.
Despite a difficult qualifying weekend—where a technical failure caused heavy damage and forced a withdrawal—Dörr Motorsport remains optimistic. With both Glock and Verstappen in the field, the 2026 Nürburgring 24h is shaping up to be a compelling endurance spectacle featuring star power, redemption stories, and high-stakes GT3 action.
