Ferrari Unveils Major SF-26 Upgrade Package in Bid to Close Gap to Mercedes
Ferrari has introduced one of its most significant Formula 1 development packages of the 2026 season, bringing a heavily revised version of its SF-26 challenger as the team continues its push to challenge Mercedes at the front of the grid
The upgrade package, introduced at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, focused mainly on improving the aerodynamic performance of the Ferrari car. The Scuderia arrived with changes across several key areas, including a redesigned front wing, updated nose section, revised floor, sidepod adjustments and diffuser improvements.

Ferrari’s new front wing is considered the headline change, with engineers working to improve airflow management and increase the car’s aerodynamic balance. The revised design includes changes to the wing elements, footplate and endplate areas, helping the SF-26 generate more consistent performance across different corner speeds.

The floor development is another important part of the package, with Ferrari targeting higher aerodynamic efficiency and more downforce across a wider operating range. The team hopes the updates will allow drivers to extract more performance from the car while improving stability during races.

The upgrade comes after Ferrari introduced earlier improvements during the season, but the team believes the latest package represents a bigger step forward in its attempt to reduce the advantage held by Mercedes.

With new regulations creating a different technical landscape in Formula 1, Ferrari has been focused on continuous development of the SF-26. The team’s goal is not only to improve outright speed but also to create a car that is more predictable and easier for drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton to manage over a full race distances

Ferrari’s upgrade push shows the team’s determination to remain competitive in the 2026 championship battle. As the season progresses, the effectiveness of these developments will be closely watched, especially as rivals continue to bring their own improvements.
The Maranello-based outfit now hopes the upgraded SF-26 can provide the performance boost needed to turn strong potential into consistent victories.
