Lewis Hamilton has officially announced his return to the front of Formula 1 after delivering a sensational performance at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. The seven-time world champion ended a lengthy 686-day wait for victory and was rewarded by climbing to the top of Formula 1’s official Power Rankings.
The Ferrari driver produced one of his finest performances in recent years, securing his maiden race win for the Italian team and proving that he remains a force to be reckoned with in the 2026 championship battle. Hamilton’s success marked a major turning point after a difficult debut campaign with Ferrari in 2025, where results often failed to match expectations.
Ferrari arrived at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with a significantly improved package capable of challenging the dominant Mercedes team. Combined with Hamilton’s experience and racecraft, the Scuderia finally delivered the breakthrough they had been searching for all season.
Throughout the race, Hamilton displayed excellent pace and composure, successfully fending off pressure from Mercedes duo George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. Despite Mercedes having won the majority of races so far this season, they were unable to stop Hamilton from claiming an emotional and convincing victory.
The win was celebrated not only by Ferrari supporters and Formula 1 fans around the world, but also by the sport’s official Power Rankings panel. The five-member judging group awarded Hamilton a perfect score of 10.0, making him the clear standout performer of the Barcelona weekend.
The perfect rating reflected the scale of Hamilton’s achievement, as he mastered qualifying and race day conditions to deliver a flawless weekend. His performance has reignited discussions about whether Ferrari can now emerge as genuine championship contenders during the remainder of the season.
Behind Hamilton in the rankings, four drivers shared second place with identical scores of 8.3. Mercedes team-mates George Russell and Kimi Antonelli were recognised for their strong performances, while McLaren’s Lando Norris and Alpine driver Pierre Gasly also earned praise after impressive weekends.
Russell and Antonelli continued Mercedes’ strong run of form despite missing out on victory, while Norris secured another valuable podium result for McLaren. Gasly’s excellent season also continued as he once again extracted maximum performance from the Alpine package.
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen occupied sixth place in the rankings with a score of 8.0 following a solid fourth-place finish for Red Bull. Although Verstappen was unable to challenge for victory, he delivered another consistent result to maintain his position near the front of the championship standings.
The remainder of the top ten featured several standout performers from across the grid. Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson secured seventh place with a score of 7.8, while Audi’s Nico Hulkenberg finished eighth on 7.3. Alpine’s Franco Colapinto claimed ninth with a rating of 7.0, and Red Bull youngster Isack Hadjar completed the top ten.
For Hamilton, however, Barcelona belonged entirely to him. After nearly two years without standing on the top step of the podium, the Formula 1 legend has once again reminded the world why he remains one of the greatest drivers in the history of the sport.
