F1 Results Today: Barcelona Grand Prix FP3 times and positions

George Russell delivered an impressive performance in the final practice session ahead of qualifying for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, setting the fastest lap and putting Mercedes at the top of the timesheets. The British driver looked comfortable throughout FP3, showing strong pace as teams completed their final preparations before the crucial qualifying session.

Russell’s best lap of 1:15.679 proved enough to secure the fastest time of the session, reinforcing the encouraging form Mercedes has displayed throughout the weekend. After facing several challenging races in recent rounds, Russell appeared determined to re-establish himself among the frontrunners and gave his rivals plenty to think about heading into qualifying.

Close behind him was McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who continued the team’s strong weekend by finishing second. The Australian was just over two-tenths of a second slower than Russell, highlighting how competitive the battle at the front could become later in the day. McLaren once again demonstrated excellent pace around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, suggesting they remain serious contenders for pole position.

Ferrari also enjoyed a productive session, with Charles Leclerc claiming third place. The Monegasque driver looked increasingly comfortable in the updated Ferrari package and remained within striking distance of both Russell and Piastri. His performance provided further encouragement for the Scuderia as they aim to challenge Mercedes and McLaren for top honours this weekend.

Lando Norris completed an impressive showing for McLaren by finishing fourth, less than a tenth of a second behind Leclerc. The close margins among the top four drivers suggest that qualifying could be one of the most competitive sessions of the season so far. Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top five, continuing to gather data after missing Friday’s opening practice session.

Max Verstappen finished sixth for Red Bull, a result that may leave the reigning champion searching for extra performance before qualifying. While Verstappen remained within a second of the pace-setting Russell, Red Bull did not appear to have the same outright speed shown by Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari during FP3.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli ended the session in seventh position. Although the young Mercedes driver was unable to match his teammate’s benchmark pace, observers noted that traffic and interrupted laps may have prevented him from showing his full potential. Many still expect Antonelli to be a major factor when qualifying begins.

Further down the order, Isack Hadjar continued an encouraging weekend with eighth place, while Nico Hulkenberg secured ninth for Audi. Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad completed the top ten after another solid performance. Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto narrowly missed out on the top ten in eleventh, ahead of Liam Lawson in twelfth.

Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto finished 13th and 14th respectively for Alpine, while local favourite Carlos Sainz placed 15th for Williams. Haas drivers Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman occupied 16th and 17th positions, with Alex Albon ending the session 18th.

Cadillac’s Sergio Perez finished 19th, ahead of Fernando Alonso, who endured a difficult session in front of his home crowd. Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll completed the order in 21st and 22nd positions respectively.

With the top four drivers separated by less than three-tenths of a second, FP3 has set the stage for a fascinating qualifying battle. Mercedes may have ended the session on top, but McLaren and Ferrari remain firmly in contention, while Red Bull will be looking for improvements before the fight for pole position begins. As the Barcelona weekend reaches its most important phase, all signs point toward a closely contested showdown at the front of the grid.
