FIA Lunch Investigation on F1 Star after major infringement at Monaco GP practiceÂ
The FIA and race stewards have been kept busy on the opening day of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, with several investigations launched following Friday’s practice sessions.
Among the most notable cases are technical reviews involving two Formula 1 cars, including Car 1, driven by reigning world champion Max Verstappen. FIA officials are examining a potential technical issue linked to the car’s clutch disengagement system, although no penalty has been issued at this stage. Another investigation has also been opened into Car 4 over an alleged technical irregularity.
Stewards were also tasked with reviewing several sporting incidents throughout Friday’s running. These include alleged impeding during practice, pit-lane speeding offences, and possible breaches of yellow-flag procedures. Monaco’s tight street circuit traditionally creates heavy traffic, making impeding investigations particularly common as drivers search for clear track space.
Away from the track action, the FIA also summoned Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and McLaren’s Lando Norris after both drivers arrived late to Thursday’s official FIA press conference. While the breach is considered minor, attendance at FIA media sessions is mandatory under Formula 1’s sporting regulations. The matter is expected to result in only a reprimand or small fine rather than a sporting sanction.
Despite the investigations, there have been no disqualifications or grid penalties announced so far. Teams will now await the outcome of the various steward reviews before Saturday’s crucial qualifying session, where track position is expected to play a decisive role.
With Monaco’s narrow layout and a packed 22-car grid, officials are likely to remain on high alert throughout the weekend, with further investigations possible as drivers push to the limit in pursuit of pole position.
