FIA Clears Esteban Ocon After Canadian Grand Prix Tyre Pressure Investigation
The FIA confirmed that Esteban Ocon would avoid disqualification from the sprint race at the Canadian Grand Prix after a post-race investigation into an alleged tyre pressure irregularity involving his Haas car.
The drama unfolded shortly after the sprint event at Montreal’s famous Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, where Ocon crossed the line in 13th place. The Frenchman finished just behind Liam Lawson and several places ahead of his Haas team-mate Oliver Bearman.
Following the race, FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer referred Ocon’s car to the stewards after concerns emerged regarding tyre pressure handling procedures before the start of the sprint. According to the FIA report, air had reportedly been released from the left-rear tyre while the wheel remained fitted to the car, raising questions about whether the team had breached the governing body’s strict tyre operating regulations.
The matter immediately triggered speculation that Ocon could face severe sanctions, including a potential disqualification from the sprint classification. FIA rules surrounding tyre preparation and pressure management are tightly controlled to ensure fairness and safety across the grid, and even small procedural breaches can result in significant penalties.
Ocon was summoned to meet the stewards later in the afternoon as officials examined the incident in greater detail. The hearing generated considerable attention throughout the paddock, especially given how aggressively the FIA has enforced technical regulations during the 2026 season.
However, after reviewing all available data and conducting further checks, the FIA concluded that the tyre pressures on Ocon’s Haas ultimately remained within the permitted operating window. Stewards determined that no sporting advantage had been gained and that the car complied with the required technical standards.
As a result, Ocon escaped punishment and retained his 13th-place finish in the official sprint classification.
The verdict comes as an important boost for the French driver, who has endured a difficult opening phase to the 2026 campaign. After four race weekends, Ocon has managed to score just a single championship point, earned with a 10th-place finish earlier in the season at Suzuka.
Meanwhile, rookie team-mate Bearman has already accumulated 17 points, increasing pressure on the experienced 29-year-old to improve his performances and deliver stronger results for the Haas outfit during the remainder of the championship battle.
