Lewis Hamilton Explains Ferrari Preparation Change as..read more.
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he is making significant adjustments to his preparation methods at Scuderia Ferrari as he searches for improved performances alongside team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Speaking ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, the British driver admitted that he is reconsidering how much time he spends using the simulator, believing that a different approach may help him unlock more pace on race weekends. Hamilton explained that despite years of experience in Formula 1, adapting to Ferrari’s systems and car characteristics has been more challenging than expected.
The 41-year-old joined Ferrari with enormous expectations surrounding his move to the famous Italian team. However, the early phase of his campaign has been mixed, with Leclerc often appearing more comfortable with the car’s setup and race balance. Hamilton is now focused on finding solutions that can help him close the gap within the team.
During media interviews in Montreal, Hamilton said he had begun evaluating every aspect of his preparation. He noted that extensive simulator work, which is commonly used by modern F1 teams to refine setups and understand circuit behaviour, may not always translate perfectly to real-world conditions for him personally.
According to Hamilton, the issue is not necessarily the simulator itself, but how he connects with the information gathered from it. He suggested that sometimes spending less time in the virtual environment and relying more on instinct and track experience could allow him to feel more natural behind the wheel during race weekends.
The Ferrari star also pointed out that Formula 1 development never stands still, saying “the goalpost is always moving” as teams constantly introduce upgrades and new technical ideas throughout the season. That ongoing evolution means drivers must continuously adapt their driving style and feedback to stay competitive.
Hamilton’s comments highlight the demanding environment inside Ferrari, where expectations remain extremely high. The Maranello-based team continues to chase championship success, and every detail is being scrutinized as they attempt to compete consistently at the front of the grid.
Despite the difficulties, Hamilton remains determined to improve. He emphasized that he is still learning more about the Ferrari package every weekend and believes there is additional performance yet to be unlocked. The veteran driver also made it clear that he is not losing confidence, instead viewing the current challenges as part of the process of building long-term success with a new team.
Meanwhile, Leclerc’s strong understanding of the Ferrari machinery has helped him maintain an advantage internally, increasing the pressure on Hamilton to respond. Still, the former Mercedes driver’s experience and proven ability to adapt over time mean few are prepared to rule him out.
As the season progresses, Hamilton hopes that his revised preparation methods and continued adaptation to Ferrari’s systems will help him move closer to the front and strengthen his position within the team hierarchy.
