Former Formula One team principal Christian Horner has once again become a major talking point within the paddock as rumours surrounding his potential return to the sport continue to gather momentum. Since leaving his leadership role at Red Bull Racing last summer, Horner has largely remained away from the spotlight while completing a period of gardening leave, a restriction that reportedly expired earlier this month.

With his absence from the F1 scene now officially over, discussions about where he could resurface have intensified. Several reports and paddock insiders have linked Horner with a possible move to Alpine F1 Team, a team that has struggled for consistency in recent seasons and is believed to be exploring major structural changes behind the scenes.

One of the strongest factors fueling the speculation is the expected sale of a 24 percent stake in the Enstone-based team by investment firm Otro Capital. The potential ownership reshuffle has led many observers to believe that Horner could view the opportunity as an ideal pathway back into Formula One, especially because he is reportedly interested in securing partial ownership within whichever project he joins next.

The idea of Horner taking on a leadership role at Alpine has persisted for months, largely because the team is searching for long-term stability and stronger competitiveness on the grid. Horner’s success during his long spell at Red Bull has made him one of the most respected team bosses in modern Formula One history. Under his leadership, Red Bull secured multiple world championships and developed into one of the dominant forces in the sport.

Recent developments, however, have added another layer to the ongoing speculation. Horner was recently seen attending a high-profile event in Cannes hosted by Chinese automotive giant BYD. His appearance immediately triggered fresh rumours regarding his future ambitions and possible business partnerships outside traditional Formula One circles.

Although no official connection between Horner and BYD has been confirmed, many within the motorsport world interpreted the appearance as a sign that the former Red Bull chief may be exploring a wider range of opportunities before deciding on his next move. BYD’s increasing global influence in the automotive industry has also prompted speculation that the company could eventually seek greater involvement in international motorsport.

Despite the growing rumours, Horner has remained publicly silent about his future plans. Neither Alpine nor representatives linked to Horner have issued any formal statements regarding negotiations or potential agreements. Still, the continued discussion surrounding his name suggests that many within Formula One believe his return to the paddock is only a matter of time.

For now, the possibility of Horner joining Alpine remains speculative, but the combination of ownership changes, his managerial pedigree, and recent public appearances has ensured that interest in his next career step remains extremely high throughout the motorsport community.
