Christian Horner could be set for a return to Formula 1, with insiders claiming that several influential figures within the sport are supportive of seeing the former Red Bull boss back on the grid. Although Horner was dismissed by Red Bull in 2025 after a hugely successful spell in charge, speculation surrounding his future remains strong.
The British team principal spent 20 years leading Red Bull Racing and helped transform the team into one of Formula 1’s most dominant outfits. During his time at the helm, Red Bull won eight drivers’ championships and six constructors’ titles. However, a difficult period for the team eventually led to Horner’s departure, with Red Bull sitting fourth in the constructors’ standings when he left.
Since exiting the team, Horner has been linked with several opportunities both inside and outside Formula 1. Alpine and Haas have repeatedly been mentioned as possible destinations, although no deal has yet been completed. Reports suggest Horner is only interested in returning if the project offers him significant influence and long-term potential.
Rather than accepting a standard team principal role, Horner is believed to want partial ownership or a major leadership position within any organisation he joins. That requirement has reportedly made negotiations more challenging, despite strong interest in his experience and success.
Sky Sports F1 reporter Craig Slater recently explained that Horner remains eager to return under the right conditions. According to Slater, there is support for Horner’s comeback among important figures within Formula 1, even if team situations currently make a move difficult.
Slater added that Horner is not interested in returning simply to occupy a position on the pit wall. Instead, he wants to be part of a competitive project capable of fighting for championships again in the future.
Away from Formula 1, Horner has also explored other motorsport opportunities. He recently attended a MotoGP event as a guest of Liberty Media, sparking rumours that he could consider a future outside F1 if the right opening does not appear.
Meanwhile, Red Bull has moved forward under new team principal Laurent Mekies, who replaced Horner in July 2025. Under Mekies, the team remained competitive, while Max Verstappen narrowly missed out on securing another world championship title.
Despite his departure from Red Bull, Horner remains one of the most respected and successful figures in Formula 1, and rumours about his eventual return continue to grow.
