In their prime, few players would have declined to play for Manchester United, but for one illustrious striker, Celtic was the ultimate goal.In their prime, few players would have declined to play for Manchester United, but for one illustrious striker, Celtic was the ultimate goal. Henrik Larsson scored an incredible 242 goals in 315 games during an incredible seven-year tenure at Celtic Park, earning him the nickname “King of Kings.”Celtic won four Scottish Premier League crowns under Henrik Larsson’s leadership. In addition to leading Celtic to four Scottish Premier League crowns, the Swede was instrumental in preventing Rangers from tying the Bhoys’ record of nine consecutive league titles. But if the famous striker had seized the chance to move from Celtic to Manchester United in the 1990s, things might have turned out quite differently for him.“In the 1990s, I had the chance to join Manchester United from Celtic,” Larsson said in an interview with The Guardian. “Perhaps I would have made an extra £10,000 or £15,000 a week. However, I had just finished three and a half years of ups and downs with Feyenoord.“I wanted to continue with that since I had just gotten comfortable at Celtic. Since I played for Sweden and we had participated in the Uefa Cup, I didn’t see the need to travel. At Celtic, not at Barcelona, did I achieve superstar status. Fortunately for Larsson, the train to Old Trafford broke down a second time in his career when he signed a three-month loan with United in 2007.Larsson was playing for Helsingborgs back home, but he had the chance to see Premier League action at the end of the Swedish league season.Larsson notes that even though his time in Manchester was brief, he felt privileged to represent the team and praised the warm reception he received.“Sir Alex Ferguson made me feel so welcome even though I was only there for ten weeks,” he continued. I resided in the Lowry, a hotel. I used to go to lunch with Louis Saha, Patrice Evra, and Wayne Rooney. “Oh, they really care,” I realised. You therefore wish to treat them well. Being a Manchester United representative was an honour. In 2006, as Barcelona overcame Arsenal 2-1 in the Champions League final in Paris, the Swede appropriately picked up the trophy. His arrival as a second-half substitute turned the tide of the game at the Stade de France, dishing out two assists to defeat Arsene Wenger’s team. Having moved on from football, 52-year-old Larsson now splits his time between being a grandfather, managing his own clothing business and getting in a few holes of golf. The former Man City defender claims that the two-team league notion has been completely disproved by one coach down south. Ange Postecoglou, according to Micah Richards, has dispelled the myth that a manager of Celtic or Rangers cannot succeed in the Premier League.Since moving south from Parkhead last summer, the Man City fan has impressed the Tottenham manager. Due to his unique playing style, they are now vying for a Champions League berth. After winning five of his six domestic championships in two years in Glasgow, including a Treble, he moved to England last year. Some said the transfer from Scotland to the EPL was too big of a leap. According to some, Rangers is the only other team that consistently competes for the Premiership, making it a two-horse race. According to Richards, the Tottenham manager has completely dispelled the stereotypes surrounding him and his move from Scotland. His statement on the Rest is Football Podcast was, “It’s been an incredible change. How would they play was the first thing we inquired. What will they demonstrate for us? Will they be making any changes?”Given the doubt that the manager, Postecoglou, has received from many people, you have to have a great deal of respect for him. Many predicted that he wouldn’t be able to perform as well in the Premier League as he did in Australia and Japan or at Celtic.”As said, it’s a two-team league. With this team, he can only finish seventh or eighth at best. However, he is demonstrating to the players that he has that they can be bold, aggressive, and successful with this style of play. A lot of this has been made possible by the players’ and the manager’s buy-in. I believe it’s awesome to watch the Spurs.” GET MORE RELATED CONTENT ON SPORTWORDS.CO.UK
Cameron Carter-Vickers expressed the Celtic players’ instant emotions following VAR’s decision to award a penalty for a handball by Tomoki Iwata at Tynecastle this past weekend. Pundits, former professional football players, and Brendan Rodgers have all widely criticised VAR’s decision to step in and advise match referee Don Robertson that he had made a glaring mistake. While many football supporters in the stadium and at home were perplexed by the penalty call, Carter-Vickers has revealed the exact emotions that the Celtic (and Hearts) players were experiencing as they awaited the end of the VAR check.“I would like the referee to stick with his original decision, especially when he had a clear view of it the first time around,” Carter-Vickers stated [Daily Record print edition, page 50]. “I doubt that any player on the pitch was aware of who had handballed it.”On the pitch, most people believed it to be Ali Johnston.Of course it wasn’t; Tomo was the one.Your arms automatically raise when you jump for the ball.In addition, a lot of pushing and shoving occurs, which has the potential to move your body and give the impression that it is moving in the direction of the ball when it isn’t.I fail to see why a referee needs to go to a monitor at all if he has seen it clearly the first time. “That is fair enough if he hasn’t seen it, if he has only seen it through bodies, or if he hasn’t had a good angle.”I mean, even today, I still don’t get why VAR was involved in not just this judgement but also in Celtic’s penalty award and Hyunjun Yang’s dismissal. All three were absurd, and now that Celtic is contesting the South Korean’s order to leave, supporters will be hoping that this week at least one injustice will be made right. Simon Jordan, a claims that Philippe Clement, the manager of Rangers, is “an equal” of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and that the Belgian has given the Old Firm title competition an extra advantage. With both teams losing their most recent league games—the Gers falling to Motherwell and Celtic losing to Hearts at Tynecastle—the Light Blues are currently two points ahead of the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership.Although Jordan has acknowledged that Brendan Rodgers annoys him, he has also acknowledged that Clement has amazed him since coming to Glasgow, implying that Clement has forced Jordan to support Rangers in this year’s championship game.He stated, “I am quietly, without too much partisan rooting for Rangers to win the SPFL,” in a talkSPORT interview on Tuesday, March 5, at 10:08.I’m not sure why, but Brendan sometimes frustrates me, and some of his attitude at Leicester wasn’t very nice.I like to see Scottish football gain popularity and see two strong Old Firm teams contending head-to-head, turning the competition into a championship match and providing Scottish football a competitive advantage. “I have to admit, I chuckled to myself when I saw Celtic lose because you have a really good manager in the Rangers dugout now who is on par with Celtic.”Will Rangers be able to defeat Celtic, their Old Firm rivals, in this season’s Premiership title match? The Scottish championship race is quite well-positioned right now, and although if Rangers are the slight favourites, it would be foolish to write out Rodgers’ team because they have proven themselves on this course many times in the past.Except for Celtic, who they have lost to in both of their Old Firm matches this season—one of those losses came while Michael Beale was manager—Clement’s team has demonstrated that they are capable of defeating everyone they play this season. The remaining two Old Firm matches will probably be critical as this race comes down to the wire, therefore if the Gers want to defeat their Glasgow rivals to the title this season, they must improve their record in those games. There is still plenty of Premiership games to be played before anyone wins the trophy, but maybe Clement’s team can do their fans and Jordan proud by defeating Celtic this season. Adam Idah, a Norwich City loanee, has shocked some at Carrow Road with his Celtic play, according to reporter Michael Gannon.Idah, a striker, was given permission by Norwich City to leave on loan in January so that he may play more regularly outside of Carrow Road.Throughout the earlier part of the campaign, he had been a regular fixture for the Canaries, but it was difficult for him to make a significant impression because he was frequently used as a replacement.Celtic became interested in the situation and agreed to a loan. He has since established himself north of the border and has demonstrated his best form of the senior year.Idah is just one goal short of the six goals he scored in 28 Championship appearances prior to the loan move, having netted five goals in seven games for the Scottish Premiership team. His performance in Scotland has drawn notice, and it appears that Norwich City was not prepared for it either.Speaking on the RecordCeltic Podcast, Daily Record reporter Michael Gannon remarked that his parent club is “surprised” by Idah’s performance (comments courtesy of Celts Are Here). He declared: “I believe Idah has seized his opportunity greatly. He has taken everyone by surprise. People you talk to at Norwich, for example, are similarly shocked by how brilliantly he began off.Idah has always been seen as a promising player, but after making more than 100 appearances for Norwich City, he is now a well-established member of the first team. Having said that, there were those who would have expected him to secure a starting position with the Canaries.Although Idah’s 115 appearances total of 17 goals and 4 assists isn’t particularly impressive, a large portion of his games have been as a substitute.Maybe an impressive loan where he plays as the starting striker for Celtic might convince people back at his parent club that he is a reliable option to start at the top for the long term in Norfolk.Idah, though, is going to be keen to stay going in Scotland till then. He’s taken the starting position and made it his own. With five goals in his last seven games, you’d expect him to hang on if he can continue his strong play at the top of the pitch. GET MORE RELATED CONTENT ON SPORTWORDS.CO.UK
