In a devastating maritime disaster that unfolded just past midnight, a Carnival cruise ship carrying over 3,700 passengers capsized in the Caribbean Sea. Early reports confirm 700 fatalities, while 3,009 people have been rescued in a massive international effort involving coast guards, private vessels, and air support.
The ship, on the seventh night of a 10-day tropical voyage, reportedly encountered a violent and sudden shift in weather, causing it to list dramatically before capsizing within minutes. Survivors described sheer chaos as alarms blared and furniture slid across decks. “People were screaming, running, grabbing life jackets—it was pure panic,” said Marina Lopez, who was pulled from the water after clinging to debris for over three hours.
