Lukas Jutkiewicz Reflects on Future, Vows wasto Help Restore Birmingham City Before Possible Summer Exit
Lukas Jutkiewicz has admitted that this summer could mark the end of his long-standing journey with Birmingham City, but the veteran striker remains focused on one thing before any decisions are made: helping restore the club to the Championship.
The 35-year-old, who is now in his ninth season at St Andrew’s, has become a familiar face and a fan favourite among Blues supporters. Since joining from Burnley in 2016, Jutkiewicz has made over 300 appearances for the club, scoring crucial goals and often leading the line with grit and determination. But with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and Birmingham City currently battling in League One following last season’s relegation, questions over his future are looming.
“If I leave Birmingham City this summer, I want to make sure I’ve left with the club heading back in the right direction,” Jutkiewicz said following the club’s recent victory. “This club has given me so much. It’s become my home and I’ve felt that support from day one. But football moves fast, and I know nothing lasts forever.”
Despite reduced minutes and a more
limited role this season, Jutkiewicz has remained a leader behind the scenes. Manager Tony Mowbray has praised the striker’s professionalism and his influence on the younger players in the dressing room. “Jukey’s presence is massive,” Mowbray noted earlier this month. “He knows what it means to wear this badge and he shows that every day in training.”
Birmingham City’s push for promotion is gaining momentum as they sit just outside the automatic places, and Jutkiewicz is determined to play a key role in the run-in. “Getting this club back to where it belongs is the priority,” he said. “Whatever happens after that, I’ll deal with it. Right now, it’s about giving everything for the shirt.”
While fans would love to see him extend his stay, both the club and player are expected to hold talks in the summer. Whether Jutkiewicz stays or goes, his legacy at Birmingham is already secured—one of loyalty, passion, and unrelenting commitment to the cause. If this is to be his final chapter at St Andrew’s, he’s determined to finish it
on a high.
