Breaking news: Carnival Cruise ship rescues six people after cargo vessel capsizes, while…

On December 13, 2023, the Carnival Vista cruise ship rescued six individuals from a life raft after their cargo vessel, Two Brothers, capsized approximately 30 miles north of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The rescue operation was initiated when the ship’s monitoring system received an emergency alert, prompting Captain Paolo Severini and his crew to alter course and retrieve the stranded mariners.

Following the rescue, Carnival Vista’s team informed Dominican Republic Coast Guard officials about six additional crew members still missing. A U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos conducted search patterns near the sunken vessel’s last known position, locating and hoisting the remaining six survivors who were clinging to debris. All twelve individuals were transferred to emergency medical services in Puerto Plata and reported to be in good health.

Despite the incident, Carnival Vista continued its scheduled itinerary, visiting Amber Cove as planned. The ship, homeported in Port Canaveral, Florida, was on a six-day Eastern Caribbean voyage that departed on Sunday.
