A routine day at Carnival’s private island, Half Moon Cay, turned fatal on March 22, 2025, when a female cruise passenger lost control of her jet ski and crashed into a rock. Authorities identified the victim as a British/Czechoslovakian national, but despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred on the final day of Holland America Line’s Nieuw Amsterdam cruise, delaying its return to Fort Lauderdale and pushing back the embarkation of the next voyage.
This tragedy echoes a similar jet ski accident at Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay in late 2024, which resulted in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit. As investigations continue, concerns grow over the safety of water excursions at cruise destinations.
