Callum McGregor Accepts that Celtic have to “Suffer” in UCL as they Push for Next Round

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has acknowledged that competing in the UEFA Champions League requires the team to endure difficult moments as they strive to reach the knockout stages for the first time in over a decade. Following a 1-1 draw against Club Brugge at Celtic Park, McGregor reflected on the team’s resilience and their progress in handling the challenges of top-level European football.

The match saw an early setback for Celtic when Cameron Carter-Vickers inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, putting Brugge ahead. However, the Hoops managed to regroup, demonstrating their ability to bounce back under pressure—a skill they also showcased in their recent 3-1 comeback victory over RB Leipzig.

McGregor emphasized the importance of patience and adapting to the game’s demands. “We’ve gotten much better at recognizing the moments we need to suffer,” he noted, highlighting the high standards of the teams in the competition. Despite difficulties, Celtic maintained composure, equalizing through a well-crafted team effort.

The draw keeps Celtic’s hopes alive, setting up a decisive final group-stage match against Dinamo Zagreb. A win in Croatia would virtually guarantee a spot in the last 16, an achievement that would underline the team’s growth. McGregor remains confident in the squad’s ability to capitalize on this opportunity, as they continue to develop on the European stage.
