Celtic Strikers Struggling to Replicate Larsson’s Legacy
Celtic forwards Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah have had a lackluster start to the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season. Kyogo, the primary striker under Brendan Rodgers, has started eight of the team’s 11 league matches but has scored just four goals, missing 12 clear chances. Idah, in a supporting role, has managed two goals while also missing several opportunities across eight appearances.
Living up to Henrik Larsson’s iconic legacy has always been a tall order for Celtic’s strikers. The Swedish legend, who joined Celtic in 1997 from Feyenoord, netted an impressive 220 goals in 287 appearances for the club. He remains a benchmark for future forwards.

### The Promise and Departure of John Guidetti
In 2014, Celtic brought in another Swedish forward, John Guidetti, on loan from Manchester City. Despite injury struggles earlier in his career, Guidetti had shown potential, having scored 20 goals in 23 games during a loan spell with Feyenoord.
Guidetti’s single season at Celtic showed glimpses of brilliance. He scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions. However, he declined a permanent deal, later expressing dissatisfaction with less glamorous fixtures like “Ross County away” and a lack of enthusiasm for winning the league title.
After leaving Celtic, Guidetti failed to consistently deliver in Spain, managing no more than seven goals per season across stints with Celta Vigo and Alaves. At 32, he now plays for AIK in Sweden, missing the chance to establish a legendary status at Celtic akin to Larsson.
