Rangers hero wanted for free agent transfer by an ex-boss as Premiership manager in ominous Celtic statement

Celtic and Rangers are both in action this weekend in the Scottish Premiership, with Celtic traveling to Kilmarnock as they aim to stay within reach of Aberdeen at the top of the table. The Hoops are fresh off a 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League. Rangers, meanwhile, will face Hearts at home as they look to close the gap on the top two teams.

In a recent statement, Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes has praised Celtic’s current squad, claiming they have the potential to be even better than Brendan Rodgers’ Invincibles team. He believes the current squad has more speed and a different dynamic compared to the 2017 team, although he acknowledged that both sides share a similar approach. McInnes also noted the growth potential of the team, particularly after the summer departure of Matt O’Riley, which was followed by the signing of Arne Engels. He pointed out that despite losing O’Riley, Celtic has actually improved, thanks to smart investments that are helping the team develop further.

McInnes highlighted Celtic’s mature performance against Leipzig, noting that their victory contradicted the previous doubts about their ability to compete with top Bundesliga teams after their loss to Borussia Dortmund. He praised the team’s strong performance, calling it a great result for Brendan Rodgers and boosting the expectations surrounding Celtic’s European ambitions. He also acknowledged that while Celtic are in good form, they will face a different challenge at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock.

In other news, former Rangers winger Ryan Kent is reportedly attracting interest from Preston North End. The 27-year-old is a free agent after leaving Fenerbahce and is now considering his options. Kent had a successful stint at Rangers between 2019 and 2023, making 218 appearances and scoring 33 goals, but his time in Turkey has been less impactful. Kent could now return to the UK, with Preston emerging as a potential destination.
