Liam Donnelly ‘lucky’ to escape Celtic red card as reason VAR didn’t pick up on forgotten Kilmarnock flashpoint named….

In Kilmarnock’s recent match against Celtic, Liam Donnelly narrowly avoided a red card following a heated incident with Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. With Kilmarnock trailing 2-0, Donnelly aggressively closed in on Schmeichel, raising his arm in what appeared to be a dangerous challenge. Although Donnelly’s elbow missed Schmeichel, it sparked an immediate reaction, with the keeper and teammate Auston Trusty confronting the Kilmarnock midfielder. Referee Nick Walsh issued a yellow card, a decision supported by VAR, which assessed the play without further action.

Analysts, including Billy Dodds, believe Donnelly was “lucky” to escape with just a yellow. Had the arm connected, he would likely have faced ejection from the match. Some also linked Donnelly’s actions to frustration after a hard tackle by Celtic’s Reo Hatate moments earlier, who similarly escaped a red card.
