Swedish center-back Gustaf Lagerbielke made a rare appearance for Eredivisie club FC Twente in their 2-2 Europa League draw against Ligue 1 team Nice. The 24-year-old, who has struggled to secure game time under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, has only made five appearances since joining Twente on loan this summer.
FC Twente initially led 2-0 in France, but Lagerbielke and his teammates allowed Nice to stage a comeback, with Jean Lardi’s team eventually securing a point. This draw marks another setback for Joseph Oosting’s side, as they remain outside the critical top 24 spots in the newly revamped Europa League standings, currently sitting in 27th. The Dutch side has drawn three of their four matches so far, including a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
In the Europa Conference League, Johnny Kenny shone for Shamrock Rovers, scoring in their 2-1 win over Welsh team The New Saints. Kenny’s goal added to his earlier header against Larne, bringing his total to two goals in the competition. This victory places Shamrock Rovers in 7th place with seven points after three games, which would secure them at least a spot in the knockout play-off round. A top-eight finish could even grant them direct entry to the last 16, though challenging matches against Rapid Wien and Chelsea still await.
Kenny, unlike Lagerbielke, was signed by former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou. The 21-year-old forward joined from Sligo Rovers in January 2022, signing a five-year deal with the Scottish champions.
