The 24-year-old Nicolas Kuhn has recently been hailed as one of Celtic’s most crucial players. His exceptional performance, including a stunning two-goal effort against German contenders RB Leipzig, led Celtic to one of their best recent European victories.
In the 3-1 win, Kuhn scored in the 35th and 45th minutes, reversing an early goal by Christoph Baumgartner and remaining a constant threat throughout the match. Former Celtic star Aidan McGeady called Kuhn “the standout player in Scottish football this season.” Though Kuhn initially took time to adjust after his £3m move from Rapid Vienna in January—with former teammate Joe Hart suggesting he was “second guessing himself”—he now looks “right at home” on Europe’s biggest stage.
The former German U20s winger has been involved in 19 goals this season (nine goals, 10 assists), making him Celtic’s top contributor by at least seven goal involvements. His stats across the Scottish Premiership, League Cup, and Champions League place him among the world’s most productive players this season, level with Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski and ahead of stars like Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, and Ballon d’Or nominee Vinicius Jr.
Only Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane have surpassed Kuhn’s goal contributions since the 2024/25 season began. Kuhn’s brace also made him the first Celtic player since club legend Roy Aitken in 1979 to score twice in the first half of a Champions League match.
Kuhn has played a key role in Celtic’s remarkable start to the season under Brendan Rodgers, with the team losing only one of their first 13 games.
