Celtic could face a defensive dilemma ahead of their Scottish Premiership clash with Kilmarnock, as Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty were both missing from training on Friday. The American duo, who played pivotal roles in Celtic’s 3-1 Champions League win over RB Leipzig, were notably absent from preparations, raising concerns over their fitness.
Trusty appeared to sustain an ankle knock during the first half of the Leipzig match but managed to finish the game, while Carter-Vickers, recently recovered from a toe injury, was substituted 15 minutes before the final whistle for Liam Scales.
Their potential unavailability poses a challenge for manager Brendan Rodgers, who may need to explore alternatives to ensure defensive solidity. Possible options include giving Liam Scales a more prominent role or even handing a rare start to Maik Nawrocki, who has not featured regularly this season. Stephen Welsh could also be considered, providing a reliable domestic option.
That said, it’s not unusual for Rodgers to rest key players during final training sessions, especially those managing injuries or heavy match schedules. The absence of Carter-Vickers and Trusty may simply be a precaution, and more clarity on their availability is expected during Rodgers’ pre-match press conference later today.
