Andrew Nabbout has been sidelined for the season with an ACL rupture, while Marco Tilio faces up to two months out due to a hamstring injury, dealing a major blow to Melbourne City’s attacking options.
The two Socceroos stars were injured during Monday night’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Western United. Nabbout, who tore both his ACL and meniscus in his right knee, will require surgery.
The 31-year-old’s injury is particularly disappointing as he had shown strong form with two goals in three games, following an Achilles injury that disrupted his 2023 and 2024 seasons.
“This one’s tough to take,” Nabbout shared on Instagram. “I’ve ruptured my ACL and will miss the rest of the season. No words can capture how I feel, especially since I was getting back to my best. I’ll come back stronger, as I always have.”
Tilio, currently on loan from Celtic, will be out for six to eight weeks due to a partial tear in his left hamstring tendon. City is expected to take a cautious approach with his return given his past struggles with injuries, likely keeping him out of Socceroos selection until next year.
City has the option to bring in an injury replacement for Nabbout and is also expecting young attackers Arion Sulemani (calf) and Max Caputo (leg) to return soon. Sulemani could be back after the international break, and Caputo is anticipated to return within a month.
City’s next game is an away match against Perth Glory on Sunday.
