Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston is on the verge of signing a lucrative new contract after an impressive season start. Discussions about an extension began in September, and RecordSport now reports that negotiations have made substantial progress.
Johnston’s agents are in Glasgow to finalize the terms, which will see the 26-year-old’s salary increase and his contract extended beyond 2027. Celtic is optimistic about securing the agreement soon.
Since his transfer from Montreal in early 2023, Johnston has quickly become a crucial part of Celtic’s lineup, winning five trophies in under two years. He’s not only a senior squad member but has also occasionally captained the team, including leading them to a 3-0 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park recently, where he scored a goal.
This season, Johnston has enhanced his offensive game, with four goals and four assists in 16 matches across all competitions. Alongside players like Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda, he’s been one of Celtic’s standout performers.
Celtic fans and manager Brendan Rodgers are likely thrilled with the progress toward securing Johnston’s long-term commitment.
