Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi has been called back to the Japanese national team, marking his return after more than a year away from international duty. Japan’s coach Hajime Moriyasu selected the 29-year-old for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Indonesia and China, benefiting from an injury to regular striker Ayase Ueda. Furuhashi’s strong performances with Celtic this season contributed to his recall, joining fellow Celtic players Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate, who have been mainstays in Japan’s lineup.
Japan, leading Group C by five points, needs a win in either match to secure automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup. They face Indonesia in Jakarta on November 15 and then travel to China for the game on November 19.
In other news, Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers expressed confidence in the team’s progress in the Champions League after a commanding 3-1 win over RB Leipzig, bringing their points to seven from four games. This victory has fueled fans’ optimism about reaching the knockout rounds. Carter-Vickers noted Celtic’s growth over three seasons in the competition, praising their resilience in overcoming challenges, especially in recent games. He emphasized that the team’s focus remains on dominating games, creating chances, and showing they can be a formidable opponent when playing at their best.
