City injury woe: Tilio out, Nabbout’s season over….

Melbourne City’s attacking lineup has taken a significant hit as Andrew Nabbout is out for the season with an ACL rupture, and Marco Tilio is sidelined for up to two months due to a hamstring injury.

Both Socceroos sustained injuries during City’s narrow 1-0 victory over Western United on Monday night. Nabbout, who tore his ACL and meniscus in his right knee, will need reconstructive surgery. His injury is especially unfortunate, as the 31-year-old had scored twice in three games this season after missing much of 2023 and 2024 with an Achilles issue.

“This one’s tough to take,” Nabbout shared on Instagram. “I ruptured my ACL and will miss the rest of the season. Words can’t express how I feel, especially since I felt I was getting back to my best. I’ll come back stronger, as I always have.”

Tilio, on loan from Celtic, is expected to be out for six to eight weeks with a partial tear in his left hamstring tendon. Given his history of injuries, City will likely be cautious with his return, which will likely keep him out of Socceroos selection until the new year.

City has the option to replace Nabbout with an injury signing if desired, and they’re also expecting young talents like Arion Sulemani (calf) and Max Caputo (leg) to return soon. Sulemani could be available after the international break, and Caputo is anticipated to make his comeback within the month.

City’s next match is an away game against struggling Perth Glory on Sunday.
