Celtic is basking in praise following their impressive Champions League victory over RB Leipzig, as recognition continues for the Scottish champions. While Brendan Rodgers’ squad played a crucial role, the enthusiastic Celtic fans also contributed significantly, according to Leipzig’s veteran midfielder Kevin Kampl.
Despite his experience playing in intense atmospheres like those at Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and even Turkish stadiums, Kampl admitted that the Celtic Park environment was particularly challenging. Speaking to *Leipziger Volkszeitung*, the 34-year-old with 585 first-team appearances explained that it took RB Leipzig five minutes to adapt to the atmosphere. While they managed to control the game until the 35th minute and took the lead, Celtic’s double strike shifted the momentum, fueled by the vocal support of their fans.
“If we’d gone up 2-0, we could have quieted the stadium more,” Kampl reflected. “But it was tough in the second half as Celtic seemed to have an answer to everything, staying unfazed.” Kampl acknowledged that, despite Leipzig’s efforts, they struggled against Celtic’s resilience and the passionate support at Parkhead, calling the experience “something special.”
Leipzig isn’t the first team to be challenged by Celtic’s unique home support. Giants like Barcelona, AC Milan, and Manchester United have also faltered at Celtic Park, overwhelmed by the fervent fans.
With Celtic set to face Club Brugge next, another victory, coupled with the fans’ unwavering support, could see Rodgers surpass a 14-year Champions League record he just equaled.
