The 2024/25 Champions League has been revamped, and Celtic are thriving in the new format. With two wins, one draw, and one loss, the Hoops are currently 13th in the 36-team league, looking strong for a spot in the round of 16 playoffs. In fact, they’re on track to potentially qualify automatically, bypassing the playoffs altogether. As they continue their impressive run, Celtic are set to earn even more from the lucrative competition.
The win against RB Leipzig at Parkhead last night, with a stunning brace from Nicolas Kuhn and a goal from Reo Hatate, has put Brendan Rodgers’ side in an excellent position heading into their next home clash against Club Brugge later this month. Fans, initially cautiously optimistic about the group stage draw, now have every reason to believe in a successful journey toward the knockout rounds.
Financially, Celtic are already reaping the rewards. UEFA allocates prize money based on performance in the league phase, with €2.1 million (£1.77 million) for a win and €700,000 (£589,868) for a draw. With four games under their belt, Celtic have earned around £4.13 million from on-field results alone. This doesn’t include gate receipts or other bonuses, like the new UEFA value pillars, which reward teams based on their rank at the end of the league phase. Celtic have already secured £15.7 million for qualifying through their Scottish Premiership victory last season.
The rewards for progressing in the tournament are significant as well, with knockout round play-offs yielding €1 million (£842,669), and advancing further offering prizes of up to €25 million (£21.07 million) for the champions. With Celtic’s current form, their financial windfall could continue to grow as they progress in the competition.
