Funeral of legendary Celtic player to take place

The funeral of Celtic legend Tommy Callaghan, who passed away at the age of 78 last month, will take place tonight. Fans are expected to gather along The Celtic Way to honor Callaghan as his funeral procession passes Celtic Park at 5:10 pm. A statement from the club invited supporters to pay their respects to the former midfielder, who was a key member of Celtic’s famous nine-in-a-row team in the 1974 season.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers expressed his condolences, calling Callaghan “a real legend of the club” and noting that being signed twice by Jock Stein highlighted Callaghan’s quality as a player. Rodgers shared that he had received a message from Callaghan’s son about his father’s passing and praised Callaghan’s contributions to the club, which included six league titles, five Scottish Cups, and three League Cups. Callaghan joined Celtic from Dunfermline in 1968 and made 264 appearances for the club before leaving in 1976. He later played for Clydebank and Galway Rovers before retiring from football.
