Frustration Mounts: Leicester City Manager Steve Cooper Ready to Drop Underperforming Star After Ipswich Draw

A Leicester City player may be at risk of losing his starting position following his disappointing display against Ipswich Town.

Leicester secured a late draw at Portman Road, with Jordan Ayew equalizing dramatically in the final moments.

While Leicester may have been the stronger side overall, there were still significant issues across the pitch for the Foxes.

A surprising late appearance by Boubakary Soumare ended positively, as he assisted Ayew’s equalizer, demonstrating remarkable composure under pressure. However, aside from this standout moment, many performances fell short of expectations, particularly one attacking display that may lead to a substitution.

Leicester City’s Stephy Mavididi, in action during the match against Ipswich Town, could be the player facing the consequences of his performance. The Foxes have struggled with consistency in their attacking output, with only Jamie Vardy and Facundo Buonanotte consistently delivering solid performances.

Mavididi’s performance against Ipswich was notably disappointing, described as ‘frustrating’ by Leicester Mercury. The attacker, playing on the left flank, struggled to find the back of the net, failing to register a single shot on goal and missing a significant opportunity. Additionally, he lost possession nine times, with Ipswich’s Ben Johnson consistently getting the better of him.

After such a lackluster showing, it’s difficult to see why Cooper would choose to stick with him. Mavididi was outshone by teammates Abdul Fatawu, Buonanotte, and Vardy, and he appears to be the most likely candidate to be dropped from the lineup.

However, the limited options on the bench may play a role in Cooper’s decision. Although Ayew could step in as a starter, he has been more effective coming off the bench. Meanwhile, Bilal El Khannouss and Kasey McAteer have yet to make an impact in the 2024/25 Premier League season.

If Mavididi retains his spot against Manchester United, it will likely be due to the lack of stronger alternatives, though Cooper knows that a repeat of the Ipswich performance is unacceptable.
