The real ‘reason’ Brendan Rodgers dropped Liam Scales for Celtic vs Aberdeen in League Cup….

Brendan Rodgers has shown he isn’t afraid to make tough selection choices for Celtic.

In last week’s match against Motherwell, the Hoops boss made some bold changes, starting Luke McCowan and putting Arne Engels on the bench. Then, against Dundee, he made further adjustments to rest key players ahead of the League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.

However, perhaps his most debated decision came when he left the impressive Liam Scales out of the starting lineup for the Aberdeen match.

Rodgers explained his choice to partner Auston Trusty with Cameron Carter-Vickers, sharing his thoughts with Premier Sports. “It was very tough because Liam’s been absolutely brilliant since he joined the team,” Rodgers said. “But we assess each game individually, and I thought with the pace of Aberdeen’s striker, who likes to run in behind, we’d benefit from a bit more speed in defense. Auston’s physicality also made him a strong choice for this match.”

Alan Thompson praised the 6-0 win over Aberdeen, symbolizing it with six shamrocks—a gesture emphasizing Celtic’s dominance. The message to Aberdeen was clear: if they hope to compete with Celtic, they’ll need to step up significantly, as overcoming the reigning Scottish champions will require something exceptional.
