Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran recently signed a new contract after attracting interest from various clubs throughout Europe. The 20-year-old striker revealed that, despite being tempted to leave during the summer transfer window, he is grateful to Unai Emery, Monchi, and Damian Vidagany for helping him refocus at Aston Villa, which has led to an impressive start to the season.
Duran received several offers, including one from West Ham, which he was keen on, but the move did not happen. After discussions with Emery, Monchi, and Vidagany, he recommitted himself to Villa and has played a significant role in their successful campaign.
Following his winning goal against West Ham, Duran continued his scoring streak against Leicester City, Everton, and Wolves, culminating in a goal in the recent victory over Bayern Munich. He has netted eight goals in 14 appearances, including matches against Wycombe, Bologna, and Crystal Palace.
Reflecting on his summer experience, Duran told Sky Sports, “Yes, I think there were rumors. As a young man, it’s easy to be distracted. But I received total support from Unai, Monchi, and especially Damian.” He acknowledged their critical roles in keeping him focused and grounded, noting their importance in his development.
Emery, in his first press conference ahead of Villa’s match against West Ham in August, expressed confidence in Duran’s potential, stating, “He helped us last year and is a very important player. He is young and will make mistakes, but I want to guide him, just as I did last year.”
