Money experts have revealed a substantial financial gap of £75 million between Celtic and Rangers, highlighting the widening financial chasm between the two Glasgow clubs.
On the field, Celtic and their rivals remain neck-and-neck in the Scottish Premiership after ten matches, with both teams yet to lose a game and locked on 28 points. However, Aberdeen has posed a surprising challenge, competing closely with Celtic and keeping pace since their October clash at Parkhead.
Rangers, meanwhile, have consistently finished within the top two since the 2017/18 season, when they ended behind Aberdeen. This season, however, they find themselves trailing both Aberdeen and Celtic by nine points, sparking tension at Ibrox as they struggle to keep pace.
The financial differences between Celtic and Rangers have also grown, according to *Football Insider*. Rangers’ latest accounts reveal just £1.7 million in their reserves, while Celtic’s cash balance reached £77.2 million, marking a significant £75.5 million gap.
Despite Rangers achieving record revenue of £88.3 million for 2022/23, Celtic’s income outpaced them, reaching a record £124.6 million. Although Rangers cut their wage bill, Celtic’s increased by £4.8 million. Under Brendan Rodgers, Celtic claimed the Scottish Premiership title and Scottish Cup last season, and they’re leading the league again.
Finance expert Stefan Borson expects this financial divide to widen further, projecting that Celtic’s Champions League run could bring in as much as £50 million, while Rangers are likely to earn less than £5 million from the Europa League.
Celtic face Aberdeen this Saturday in the Scottish Cup semi-final before their Europa League match against RB Leipzig. Rangers, meanwhile, aim to overcome Motherwell, with hopes of setting up another potential Old Firm final.
