‘Big decision’: Ferguson urges Rangers to drop £1.5m man vs Aberdeen, says summer signing must start in new role

Barry Ferguson is urging Rangers to solidify their defense ahead of a crucial Scottish Premiership clash against league leaders Aberdeen. The former Rangers captain is concerned about the backline’s inconsistency, particularly with the pace of Aberdeen’s attack, led by Ester Sokler and Pape Habib Gueye, who have been instrumental in offsetting the departure of Bojan Miovski.

Ferguson points out Robin Propper’s struggles in Rangers’ recent match against St Mirren, where he and 36-year-old Leon Balogun struggled against the pace of striker Toyosi Olusanya. With John Souttar’s availability uncertain, Ferguson believes Philippe Clement should start Neraysho Kasanwirjo, who impressed off the bench against St Mirren. Clement has praised Kasanwirjo’s adaptability, with the Feyenoord loanee standing out at both right-back and center-back recently.

Ferguson stressed the importance of a win at Pittodrie, as a loss could see Rangers fall nine points behind Aberdeen. He emphasizes the need for mental toughness and the determination to cut the points gap in what he views as a must-win fixture to keep Rangers’ title ambitions alive.
