Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg has expressed interest in joining the growing list of US celebrities looking to invest in UK football clubs, with Celtic Football Club catching his eye. Inspired by the success of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ownership of AFC Wrexham, Snoop Dogg is reportedly exploring the possibility of investing in the 54-time Scottish League champions, as highlighted by the *Daily Record*.
In an interview with the *Sunday Mail*, Snoop Dogg shared his admiration for the Wrexham story: “I love what Ryan has done with Wrexham, it’s just a great story.” He added, “Investing in a sports team is something I’ve been considering for a while. If the opportunity to invest in Celtic came up, I’d be crazy not to look into it. I’ve watched a lot of European soccer, but I’ve never seen fans like the Celtic fans. They are truly special.”
The California rapper has been a fan of Celtic since 2006, often spotted wearing the club’s jerseys. He has praised the passionate atmosphere at Celtic Park, saying, “Their fans are famous across Europe. The best players and coaches will tell you there’s no place like Celtic Park, and I want to be part of that. Plus, their mascot is a hound—Snoop Dogg becoming Hoopy the Hound is too good to pass up. The headlines write themselves.”
Snoop Dogg’s estimated net worth of $160 million comes from investments in successful companies like Reddit, Robinhood, and Klarna, making him a notable figure in the investment world. Celtic’s current ownership includes a mix of shareholders, with Dermot Desmond holding the largest stake at 34.7%, alongside others like Chris Trainer (10.9%), James Mark Keane (6.25%), Lindsell Train (5.7%), and Tom Allison (3.5%).
While there’s no indication that any of Celtic’s existing shareholders are looking to sell, Snoop Dogg’s involvement could bring substantial commercial benefits to the club. The involvement of celebrities like Reynolds and McElhenney in Wrexham has led to increased sponsorship deals and marketing efforts, including the Amazon Prime docuseries *Welcome to Wrexham* and partnerships with brands like TikTok and United Airlines.
The success of Wrexham has inspired other US investors to explore the profitability of lower-league UK clubs. For instance, New York rapper A$AP Rocky has reportedly joined a consortium aiming to acquire Tranmere Rovers in a deal worth £15 million.
If Snoop Dogg were to pursue a stake in Celtic, the club’s Board of Directors would need to approve the transaction. So far, no details have been provided regarding how much of a stake he intends to acquire.
