During their 3-0 victory over Motherwell, Celtic players and staff wore black armbands in honor of former Celtic player Tommy Callaghan, who passed away at 78 on October 25. Callaghan, a revered midfielder, spent eight years with Celtic, where he won six league titles, five Scottish Cups, and three League Cups. Known as a key part of Celtic’s nine-in-a-row winning team, he was also notable for being signed twice by legendary manager Jock Stein.
Before the match, Brendan Rodgers paid tribute to Callaghan, calling him a “legend of the game.” Rodgers recalled recently meeting Callaghan, highlighting the significance of his contribution to Celtic’s legacy and sending condolences to his family. Callaghan’s illustrious career also included spells at Dunfermline Athletic, Clydebank, Galway Rovers, and the San Antonio Thunder in the United States.
Celtic’s win over Motherwell extended their unbeaten league run, keeping them level on points with Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with a superior goal difference.
