BBC poke fun at Ross County and Rangers after Johnston’s Celtic goal….

The BBC had a lighthearted dig at Ross County and Rangers following Alistair Johnston’s recent goal for Celtic. Johnston, serving as the temporary captain, scored his third away goal of the season during Celtic’s 3-0 victory over Motherwell in North Lanarkshire. The win helped Brendan Rodgers’ team maintain their spot at the top of the league, continuing their unbeaten run in the domestic season.

In the match, Alex Valle provided a pinpoint cross that set up Johnston’s goal, showcasing another strong performance from the Spanish full-back. All three of Johnston’s league goals this season have come on the road—first at St Mirren Park in August, then an equalizer at Ross County, and most recently, a well-timed header at Fir Park.

The BBC couldn’t resist a cheeky comment, noting that Alistair Johnston’s tally of three away goals is “more than some teams in the Premiership have managed.” This playful jab was aimed at both Don Cowie’s Ross County and Rangers, who have struggled with scoring away from home this season—each having managed just one goal on their travels, placing them at the bottom of the away goals table.

Meanwhile, Celtic’s 3-0 win over Motherwell allowed them to keep pace with Jimmy Thelin’s Aberdeen at the top of the Premiership table, with both sides sitting on 25 points from a possible 27. Celtic’s superior goal difference has them in first place, extending their lead thanks to their three goals at the weekend compared to Aberdeen’s single strike. Rangers remain in third place, six points behind the top two, following a narrow 2-1 win over St Mirren, a match marked by controversy after St Mirren were denied a penalty.

Aberdeen’s upcoming clash with Rangers at Pittodrie on Wednesday promises to be a captivating encounter, with potential implications for the Premiership title race. For Celtic, it’s a favorable scenario regardless of the outcome. If Brendan Rodgers’ team handles their business against Dundee at Celtic Park, they can either extend their lead over Aberdeen or increase the points gap between themselves and Rangers—or even both, if the match ends in a draw.

While a draw might be the most practical outcome for Celtic’s title hopes, the idea of Aberdeen delivering a resounding win—one that would chip away at Celtic’s goal difference advantage—is certainly tempting for those fans who are eager to see Rangers slip further behind.
