Southampton manager Russell Martin recently shared that he received an apology from Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) over a missed penalty call in their recent 4-3 loss to Leicester City. The incident involved Leicester’s Jordan Ayew holding Southampton striker Paul Onuachu’s shirt during a corner, which should have been a penalty in favor of Southampton according to PGMOL’s review.
Martin’s remarks came after Southampton’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City, where he picked up a yellow card for expressing frustration over another refereeing decision, resulting in a one-game touchline ban. Southampton’s struggles continue as they sit at the bottom of the table with just one point from nine games, following a recent Wolves comeback that leaves them eight points adrift from safety.
