Chris Sutton has issued a strong caution to Celtic ahead of their Champions League match against RB Leipzig at Celtic Park on November 5. Despite Leipzig’s zero points in the group stage so far, Sutton believes they are an underestimated force, especially given that they are currently tied with Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga. Leipzig’s recent narrow defeats to top-tier teams like Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Liverpool reflect their resilience and capability, making them a team Celtic shouldn’t underestimate.
In his column for *The Daily Record*, Sutton highlighted Leipzig’s high-energy pressing style, which he thinks could disrupt Celtic’s more expansive play. This aggressive approach troubled Liverpool, and Sutton suggests that Brendan Rodgers should consider adjusting Celtic’s style to counter Leipzig’s press effectively. While Sutton appreciates Celtic’s attacking display against Slovan Bratislava, he believes a more cautious strategy against Leipzig could prevent unnecessary risks, allowing Celtic to keep Leipzig at bay.
Sutton also touched on Celtic’s improved position following their goalless draw with Atalanta in Italy. With four points in the group, Celtic are still in contention for the knockout stage, needing only two wins to reach the target of 10 points, which could secure a place in the round of 16. Sutton’s advice reflects the delicate balance Celtic must maintain between maintaining their attacking intent and adapting strategically to Leipzig’s pressing threat in order to keep their qualification hopes alive.
