Nico Raskin seems to have finally hit his stride at Ibrox, showing signs of his best form since joining Rangers in January 2023. Last season, injuries limited his impact, restricting him to just 14 Scottish Premiership appearances and hindering his chances of becoming a regular starter under the previous manager. However, this season, despite only starting two league matches, Raskin has made the most of the opportunities he’s had to impress the Ibrox faithful.
Raskin’s standout performance came during Rangers’ 4-0 Europa League victory over FCSB on Thursday, October 24. Playing the full 90 minutes, he earned an 8/10 rating from the *Daily Record*, which highlighted his aggression, intensity, and glimpses of quality in midfield. While Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron seem to be the preferred midfield choices under manager Philippe Clement, Raskin is making a strong case for more regular starting opportunities.
Against FCSB, Raskin demonstrated his influence on the game with an 82% pass completion rate, completing 51 passes—the most of any player on the pitch. He also won 57% of his tackles, made 13 recoveries, and tested the opposing goalkeeper with a powerful shot. His high involvement was evident as he took the most touches, engaged in numerous duels, and completed 50% of his dribbles.
This well-rounded display from the Belgian midfielder has sparked calls for him to be considered for a starting spot in Rangers’ upcoming match against St Mirren on Sunday, October 27. With Raskin, Barron, and Diomande all on the pitch during the second half against FCSB, Clement faces a tough decision on who to select. Regardless, Raskin’s recent form suggests he could be a key player for Rangers as the season progresses.
