Jakub Moder of Brighton & Hove Albion has emerged as a potential target for VfB Stuttgart next summer, according to Sky Deutschland. Several factors make the Polish midfielder an appealing option for the German club.
Stuttgart’s sporting director, Fabian Wohlgemuth, has already brought in Deniz Undav and Mo Dahoud from Brighton in the recent summer transfer window. Now, Wohlgemuth and his team are closely monitoring Moder’s situation. The midfielder recently made a return to action in Brighton’s EFL Cup victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers after a lengthy absence due to a serious knee injury, which sidelined him from April 2022 until October 2023. However, regular playing time at Brighton has been limited since his return to full fitness.
Moder originally joined Brighton from Lech Poznań for €11 million in 2020, and his contract with the Premier League side is set to expire at the end of this season, leaving Brighton at risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Sky’s report highlights Moder’s versatility, noting that he can play as a defensive or box-to-box midfielder, which aligns well with the style of Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeneß. Within the Bundesliga club, there is recognition of Moder as a “very interesting” option, both from a sporting and financial standpoint. Discussions about a potential move are still in the preliminary phase, with Stuttgart yet to hold serious talks with the player.
If Brighton wants to keep Moder, they will need to act swiftly and offer him a new contract before Stuttgart or other suitors move forward with their interest.
