Rangers legend Ally McCoist has responded to Martin O’Neill’s scathing critique of the current Ibrox side, which the former Celtic manager described as the worst Rangers team in 30 years. This comes after Rangers’ 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock, which left them six points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership standings.
O’Neill’s remarks highlighted the stark contrast between the current Rangers squad and the teams managed by Alex McLeish and Dick Advocaat in the late 1990s and early 2000s. McCoist, speaking on *TalkSPORT*, didn’t fully agree with O’Neill’s assessment but acknowledged the worrying situation at Ibrox. He pointed out that, technically, the worst period for Rangers was when the club was demoted to the Third Division in 2012.
However, McCoist agreed with much of what O’Neill said, particularly about the gulf in quality between Rangers and their rivals at the moment. He conceded that while Rangers are capable of pulling off a result in individual matches, they are far from being able to do so consistently. McCoist expressed concerns that the problems at the club won’t have a quick solution, affirming that O’Neill’s critical view, though painful to hear, was mostly accurate.
