Nikita Parris’s header against her former club, Manchester United, ended their perfect start to the Women’s Super League season, as Brighton held them to a 1-1 draw at Falmer Stadium.
Manchester United started strongly, with Grace Clinton netting her third goal of the season in the 10th minute, and coming close to doubling the lead just four minutes later when she struck the crossbar. However, Brighton fought back in the second half, with Parris scoring against her old club in the 52nd minute, heading the ball past United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce. It marked the first time Tullis-Joyce had conceded this season after three consecutive clean sheets.
Brighton’s keeper, Sophie Baggaley—also a former United player—played a crucial role in keeping her side level, making key saves, including a late stop to deny Elisabeth Terland, who had joined United from Brighton over the summer.
