Justin Hubner, a 21-year-old defender who has been with Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) since 2020, has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League club. Despite his lack of playing time at Wolves, Hubner has garnered immense popularity in Indonesia, thanks to his eligibility to play for the national team through his father’s Indonesian heritage. After switching his international allegiance from the Netherlands, where he played at youth levels, Hubner earned his senior debut for Indonesia in 2024 and has since become a fan favorite.
Hubner, who currently boasts 2.9 million Instagram followers, has described the overwhelming fan attention he receives in Indonesia, where he is often mobbed in public places. He humorously recounted how he cannot leave his hotel without being recognized, with fans waiting for pictures and autographs wherever he goes. He also noted the dramatic difference in privacy between Indonesia and Europe, where he can live more quietly. His newfound fame has even extended to his family, with his mother attracting thousands of Instagram followers after her visits to Indonesia.
Despite his popularity in Southeast Asia, Hubner’s career at Wolves has been quiet, with his most notable footballing experience coming during a loan spell at Japanese club Cerezo Osaka, where he made eight appearances. His contract with Wolves runs until the summer of 2025 .
