‘A harsh one!’ – Gary O’Neil expected bad news as VAR reviewed late Man City winner as Wolves boss complains ‘not many’ decisions go his team’s way

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil expressed frustration after **Manchester City**’s injury-time winner against his team, a goal that sparked controversy due to VAR intervention. City’s **John Stones** scored in the fourth minute of injury time, but initially, the goal was ruled out by referee **Chris Kavanaugh** for an offside interference by **Bernardo Silva** on Wolves goalkeeper **Jose Sa**. However, after a VAR review, the goal was allowed, as replays suggested Sa had a clear line of sight and was not hindered by Silva.

O’Neil admitted he wasn’t confident when the referee went to the pitchside monitor to review the incident, citing past experiences where decisions have not favored Wolves. He also compared this situation to a disallowed goal his team experienced last season against **West Ham**, where a similar offside call led to Wolves’ goal being overturned.

Despite his frustration, O’Neil emphasized that he doesn’t want to make excuses, stating that he respects the officials’ decisions, though the outcome felt harsh. He praised his players’ efforts, lamenting that their strong performance still resulted in leaving with no points from the match.

Wolves are struggling this season, having lost seven games and drawn once in the Premier League. They will face **Brighton** next on October 26 .
