Celtic’s journey to the final included topping a group featuring Hibernian, Airdrie, and East Fife, followed by victories over Third Lanark in the quarter-finals and Clyde in the semi-finals. Rangers, similarly, advanced by defeating Kilmarnock and Brechin City after topping their group.

The final took place on October 19, 1957, in front of more than 80,000 fans, with Celtic under the management of their legendary former player, Jimmy McGrory. The Celtic team that day featured players like Beattie, Donnelly, Fallon, and Mochan, while Rangers were managed by Scott Symon.

Celtic opened the scoring through Sammy Wilson and continued to dominate, with Neilly Mochan and Billy McPhail, who secured a hat-trick, leading the charge. Willie Fernie sealed the victory with a penalty, making it 7-1.
