Breaking: 3 reasons Steelers could struggle against the Jets in Week 7

The Steelers face a tough matchup against the New York Jets, and their status as underdogs at home in primetime is a reflection of several key concerns. Despite Mike Tomlin’s excellent track record under the lights, Pittsburgh’s Week 7 clash presents challenges.

First, the return of Davante Adams is a significant factor. Adams dominated Pittsburgh last season when he torched their secondary for 172 yards and two touchdowns in a game against Las Vegas. Now, Adams reunites with Aaron Rodgers, and paired with Garrett Wilson, they form a lethal receiving duo. Joey Porter Jr., who struggled against Adams previously, will have his hands full trying to contain him again, especially since Adams is healthy and familiar with the offensive system under Nathaniel Hackett.

Secondly, Russell Wilson, expected to start for the Steelers, has been prone to taking sacks. Pittsburgh’s offensive line has allowed too many long-developing sacks, and with the Jets boasting a fierce pass rush that ranks third in the NFL in sacks, Wilson could be in trouble. While Justin Fields, with his mobility, could have helped evade pressure, Wilson’s pocket presence might not be enough to fend off the Jets’ pass-rushing threats.

Finally, the Steelers have been slow starters recently, which could doom them against a fast-paced Jets team. Pittsburgh’s offense has struggled to get going in the first half of their last few games, a trend that could continue with a rusty Wilson under center. Facing a top-tier Jets defense, it seems unlikely that the Steelers will find an immediate spark.

In a tight game, the Jets’ defensive strength and the resurgence of Adams and Rodgers could tilt the balance in their favor, and many will likely question Tomlin’s decision to start Wilson if the Steelers fall short.
